Immersive Virtual Escape Rooms That Delivered 100% Team Fun, Competition, and Connection

handshakeHow Harvard MedTech Elevated Team Culture With Virtual Escape Rooms?

At a Glance

Remote team meetings don’t have to be limited to routine updates and small talk. When your team is spread across locations, it takes a little effort to keep everyone engaged. Virtual escape rooms offer an interactive format in which teams work together to solve clues, crack puzzles, and complete a series of fun yet challenging tasks within a set time. Everyone has to think on their feet and collaborate, which keeps the energy up and leaves no room for dull moments.

That’s the direction Harvard MedTech chose to take. With a fully remote team across the United States, they place strong emphasis on maintaining a connected and engaged culture through regular monthly team-building sessions. To make these sessions more impactful, Hannah Brandsasse, Director of Operations, partnered with Hooray Teams to host immersive, live-hosted virtual escape room experiences that bring real connection and quality interaction.

About Harvard MedTech

The Challenge

For Harvard MedTech, team building is a consistent, monthly initiative to strengthen company culture. However, with recurring internal sessions, there was a need to move beyond familiar formats and introduce something fresh and genuinely enjoyable for a fully remote team. They were looking for a unique experience that could connect their competitive and collaborative team across distances and be something people would keep talking about afterward.

The challenge was to design a team activity that combines problem-solving and competition in a natural way while ensuring 100% participation. A virtual escape room, while a strong fit, needed to be structured thoughtfully for 15 participants. The experience had to be easy to follow, with a theme and difficulty level that felt accessible to everyone. At the same time, it was important to ensure a smooth experience without technical glitches or drops in engagement.

The Solution: An Immersive Escape Room Team Building Game

Hooray Teams planned a series of virtual escape room games for Harvard MedTech, adding energy and a gamified element to their monthly team-building sessions. Over time, the team participated in multiple themed escape room games, including Nova, The Alchemist, Ronin Realm, and Patient 360, each offering a distinct setting, storyline, and set of time-based challenges.

Here’s how the experience was delivered:

01

Seamless Planning

The sessions were strategically scheduled across multiple time zones and designed with an easy-to-follow game format to ensure smooth participation.

02

Inclusive Experience

Each game was thoughtfully structured around problem-solving, teamwork, and quick thinking to drive 100% participation from the Harvard MedTech team.

03

Dedicated Hosting & Support

Each session was led by a dedicated host, with support from account managers and a tech expert for real-time troubleshooting.

04

Variety of Themes

Diverse escape room plots, such as high-stakes space adventure, magical quest, haunted ghost town, and hospital mystery investigation, ensured that each session felt unique.

The Result?

For Hannah and her team at Harvard MedTech, the experience stood out for how naturally it brought together both competition and collaboration. The team especially enjoyed the dynamic of competing against one another while still working together toward a shared goal. Hannah noted that it helped the team step away from their usual work routine and enjoy a fun, lighthearted break together.

Team members continued to talk about the experience afterward and even shared their thoughts in group chats. The positive response also reflected how much the team appreciated the effort put into planning something different for them.

Hannah also highlighted the value of having a wide range of experiences to choose from, especially for a fully remote team where keeping engagement consistent can be a challenge:

“Being totally remote, it’s difficult sometimes to get people to feel connected and engaged with their teammates and to keep the culture strong. Having so many options means that we can keep things fresh and new for them, which really makes a difference in maintaining the team’s impression that the company truly cares about providing this for them.”

– Hannah Brandsasse, Director of Operations, Harvard MedTech
